NOVEMBER 2015 UPDATE: Jiwan is 19 years old. He is currently taking a break from his studies and is working as an intern at a graphic design office, where he is learning Photoshop and other design software. He recently helped to design a banner for a computer shop, and t-shirts for IWEN, a Canadian NGO working in Nepal. He is planning on enrolling in a digital animation program at a technical school next year. In his free time, Jiwan likes to watch Japanese anime. Naruto is his favorite show, because he finds the stories and characters so interesting. Naruto is about an orphan boy who grows up to become a great person who is respected by all. Some of the stories are emotional, he says, because they shows the pain of being an orphan, but in the end Naruto doesn’t give up and he eventually prospers. At Jiwan’s desk in his room at the boy’s annex apartment, he also draws anime characters for inspiration. Slowly and steadily, Jiwan is working on figuring out what he wants to do, and developing his dreams for his career and life.
BIRTHDAY: April 13th
PERSONAL HISTORY: There is no record of Jeewan’s parent’s names, but we do know that Jeewan’s father died when he was very young and that his mother was mentally ill. The government removed Jeewan and put him in the orphanage when he was a toddler. He has no memory of his parents or of any other life other than at the orphanage.
WHAT MAKES ME SPECIAL? “Jeewan” means “life” in Nepalese. He is a bright, hardworking student. He is a happy boy who always has a smile for others, loves to sing, play basketball, and loves to read, especially adventure stories. He also likes to watch Animal Planet. His life ambition is to become an accountant and his “plan B” is to become a computer engineer. Jeewan’s favorite subject is math.
