Yaman is 7 years old and studying in grade 1. He likes school and enjoys his mathematics lessons the most. He walks two hours a day to get to school and back. He comes from a family of subsistence farmers and from an indigenous community. He lost his father in the earthquake and now lives with his mother, two elder sisters, and their elderly grandfather in a temporary shelter in their remote village in the high hills. Yaman likes to help out at home by washing dishes and washing his own clothes by hand. His mother Madhu says, “I’m very grateful for this support that is allowing me to continue to care for my children, even as a single woman in the village in Nepal”.
