The Benighat Student Support Project helps a new school

HCC’s Benighat Student Relief Project welcome the Kalika School to the project, providing support for an additional 300 children.

Over the last four years, HCC has been working with five elementary schools in Benighat, Dhading, a rural district in Nepal. This area is home to many marginalized people, especially from the indigenous Magar and Chepang communities, and suffers from widespread poverty, food insecurity, and lack of running water and sanitation.

HCC has visited the area dozens of times, distributing warm winter clothing, school uniforms and supplies, hygiene products and food relief packages to over 300 children and their families. In early February our team in Nepal held our first supply distribution and health workshop at the new school supported by the project, the Kalika School. There are now over 600 children supported by the project.

The HCC team successfully distributed essential items to 310 students to support their education and well-being, particularly during the winter season. Each child received: winter clothings, hygeine items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo), and school supplies (English, Nepali, Math workbooks, stationary, pencils, crayons and a geometry set).
