NOVEMBER 2015 UPDATE: Harsha is 16 years old, and now studying in class 9. He enjoys reading non-fiction books, and recently finished the book, “Three Mistakes of my Life,” a memoir of Madhav Jha, a famous Indian author. He also likes playing basketball and soccer, and he is the caption on his school teams for both sports! When he returns to school after the holidays, there will be an inter-house soccer tournament, which he is looking forward to. Harsha also likes listening to English pop and hip-hop music. In school, his favorite subjects are accounting and math. In math he is learning algebra, and in accounting he is learning all about business. After he passes the SLC next year, he plans to enter into the Intermediate +2 studies for either science (first choice) or management. Eventually, he would like to open his own business in the technology sector. He also plans to continue playing sports, perhaps professionally. This year in school he has monthly exams, and he has passed them all so far.

PERSONAL HISTORY: As a toddler, Harsha’s father abandoned him, his mother and his twin sister in the province of Darchula, Katmandu. The mother was economically devastated and developed a serious illness. Unable to care for Pushpa and Harsha, their brother placed them at Balmandir Orphanage at age 5. Harsha’s twin, Pushpa , was sponsored by HCC in 2008. When HCC discovered that Pushpa had a twin, Harsha was also sponsored and is now reunited with his sister.
WHAT MAKES ME SPECIAL? “Harsha”, which means “Happiness/Joy” in Nepali, is a happy boy who loves to dance, sing and play with other children, but especially loves being with his twin sister, Pushpa. His favorite sport is football (soccer). His favorite subjects in school are science and English, and he wants to be a professional soccer player when he grows up. His favorite color is black and white.
